A “Red Wave” is coming to Illinois soon. It's been a long time since Illinois has felt this excited about the midterm elections. Some rising stars are announcing runs for many statewide offices. Monday, Will County native Philip Nagel has announced his run for Illinois Senate in the 40th District. State Senator Patrick Joyce currently occupies the seat. Originally Joyce, a Democrat, was appointed to the seat but was elected in his own right defeating Republican Eric Wallace who is currently running for United States Senate. Currently, Joyce has no primary opponent and Nagel is running unopposed as well. Nagel, who is married with two sons, lives in Braidwood. He is a veteran of the Air Force and “Operation Enduring Freedom” He works as a supervisor/mitigation specialist for a national company that he's worked for over twenty years.
Nagel explained that the reason he is running is so that “parents are given a voice” upset and tired by the sexualization of Illinois children, needless mandates and Illinois shut-downs. Nagel explained that he works with many parents throughout the state to find solutions and “not just do anything” to be more “proactive” Nagel belongs to a parent's organization that represents parent's rights. Fighting for parental rights and children's freedoms. He feels that the government is “overstepping boundaries” by controlling their children. That among other issues is why he is running. He is confident he will win because Illinois residents are fed up with these issues and the poor Illinois economy, high taxes, over regulation, crime, and the neglect of the seniors, youth, and veterans!
Nagel explained his plan was simple. To gain the confidence of voters, regardless what party. Nagel, a former Democrat, switched parties because he felt he was lied too. Democratic corruption and career politicians in the party getting arrested and not representing the people. As a former Democrat, he said he would “open my arms” to voters regardless of their party. It's to represent them and their children and for a “better Illinois future” His biggest supporter is his wife, who is flirting with running for office herself. She wants to see change herself, and that is why she is supporting his campaign. Also, on board are his two grown sons. Nagel has a strong following and social media presence. He will use these tools to gain support for his campaign. He explained he will not stop and will work hard to get elected to “serve the people” to be a “servant” Some GOP leaders have their eye on him.
The 40th District covers Will, Cook, and Kankakee counties. Towns like Braidwood, Chicago Heights and Kankakee are represented there with a large minority population. Nagel feels he can win their “votes and hearts” because he's a working man. Not wealthy but an everyday American wanting the American dream. Nagels wife is of Hispanic heritage, and his son's. He is accepted into the Latino and minority communities. Nagel explained his outreach plans includes coalitions representing the churches, business, veterans and every minority group, so they are represented. Nagel explained he wants to “clean up Springfield” from corruption and to do the people's business. People are supporting him, liking his message and honesty but most importantly his plan.
The Illinois Senate holds 59 seats. Forty-one held by the Democrats and 18 are held by the Republicans. The Senate, under the leadership of leader Dan McConchie has plans to flip the State House. Voters are expected to show a large turnout. With redistricting, many seats are up in the air with primaries. However, there is great news. There is some strong Republican talent coming out to win seats. Donors are coming out to ensure a Republican win such as billionaire Ken Griffin who's worth 20 billion dollars. He alone is vowing to fund candidates to defeat the Democrats and their agenda. It will be an interesting year and petitions are coming out in just days. Illinois still can be saved. Mr. Nagel can be one of those rising stars to “shake things up” as Nagel said. Illinois needs a good shaking,, but that starts at the voting booth.
